What Is a Qualified Nanny?

We define a Qualified Nanny as a person with higher education or recognised qualifications in early childhood or child development, with verified experience and references, who will attend exclusively to your children’s needs — providing educational support and, working alongside you, instilling healthy habits and values.

Is a formal employment contract and Social Security registration required?

Yes. A formal employment relationship will be established between you and the nanny on mutually agreed terms, under the Special Household Regime. You will be required to register the nanny with Social Security and formalise an employment contract for the agreed duration.

The duties of a qualified nanny include:

  • Stimulating children through games and leisure activities both at home and outdoors.
  • Dropping off and/or collecting from school, and accompanying children to after-school activities.
  • Assisting with homework and managing the school diary in line with the parents’ guidance.
  • Participating in meal preparation and personal care routines, reinforcing good habits.
  • Keeping children’s play areas and bedrooms tidy.
  • Qualified nannies do not carry out general household tasks such as cleaning or ironing.

Before each personal interview, you will receive a PDF profile for each pre-selected candidate, which will allow you to review the following:

  • Full personal details of the candidate.
  • Identity documentation.
  • Verified employment references — with the option for you to conduct further checks if you wish.
  • Academic qualifications and training certificates.
  • Criminal record and sexual offences certificate.
  • Large photograph of the candidate.
